How was DC & NYC?

I'll tell you ...

On Saturday morning, we took off from 45, Maplewood Dr, Athens, OH at 10.20 am for Washington DC. We stopped by the rest area for a couple of times. We arrived in DC at about 5 pm and that was because we were lost. As we arrived at the Mara House, Aunty Anni who works there just arrived as well with the new pengarah, replacing Aunty Radz. Got the key and we slept in for a night.

The next day, our train left the Union Station which was a so-awesomely-great building at 10.20 am. The train stopped at seven different stations including Baltimore in Delaware, Philadelphia in Pennsylvania and Trenton in New York/New Jersey. We arrived at Penn. Station at Madison Square Garden at about 2 pm more or less. We took the famous New York yellow cab to our hotel, Shelburne Murray Hill at 37th street and Lexington Avenue. There was this kinda huge demonstration about opposing the war in Iraq so almost all junctions were closed. Our cab was a young Paki, got mad about the terrible traffic. He cursed about two-three times to other drivers. We passed by lots of interesting places. He charged $19 (though he stopped the meter, got pity on us - traffic was terribly bad).

Our hotel room was a family suite. There was a small kitchen, small dining room, a living room, a small bathroom, two TVs and two double beds. It was nice at first until the time when we tried to get some sleep; I guess the phrase "New York never sleeps" is true. There were car honking every now and then. Anyway, after we had settled in, we went out to get lunch. Or may I say, dinner as well. We walked down until 28th street. Found an Indian restaurant, bought two platters of Tandoori, ate in our hotel room.

The next day we walked down to the Empire State building. Took some pictures. Thought of going up but ayah refused to pay, says that it was pretty expensive, $25 per adult. We did not argued, left for Gap. Found this cool purse (hand bag). Its $84 including tax. I love it. Ayah loves it. Mama.. eh.. It was OK. Adik, no comment. We were going to keep in view. Later went to Macy's. Did only window shopping. Nice purses. Nice shades, pants, blouses, shoes, etc. Lots of shoppers. Kinda crowded. Mama bought a pair of Calvin Klein socks than we just left. Bought lunch/dinner, we then headed to our hotel.

On Monday, we walked up to the Chrysler building. Took some more pictures. Dropped by the Grand Central Terminal Market. It was neat and decent. Went crossed to 43rd street, thinking about going to the Permanent Mission of Malaysia To The United Nations but was stopped by a Malaysian, Dato Abu Bakar Jaafar (ayah's acquaintance). He walked us to the UN plaza. Then he left for a meeting there. Walked some more to the UN building itself. Was stopped again by an Indonesian who's working at the Brunei Darussalam Mission to United Nation. He then called another Malaysian officer who worls there too. Ayah and him talked a little then we left.

The next day, after breakfast, we headed to Seventh Avenue to the famous Time Square. It was remarkable. Took lots of pictures. Sorta. Then went back to Gap to buy the purse that Ayah and I love. Bought a pair of heels for Mama at Aerosoles, a pants for Adik at American Eagle and a shirt for Ayah himself. We didn't visit much more that day. Mama's feet hurt. Everyone was tired. But it was fun. Totally. Awesome!

The Amtrak train left Penn. Station for Union Station, DC at 8.10 am. It was very busy, at the station. People were rushing to go to work. Everyone was wearing suits and formal clothes. When we got to MARA House again, we had lunch then we went a little more shopping in Georgetown. We left DC at 8.30 am, this morning. Stopped by Prime Outlet to do a little more shopping. Bought Chicago Knives, Pretty Pink dinner set Corelle and a frame of world map. Arrived back in Athens at 4 pm.

Aunty Anson's house at Glenview, Illinois. Turns out she's from Chendering, Terengganu. My dad started talking the Terengganu accent with her as soon as we arrived at her house the night she let her sleep at her place. She has a very nice place.

We had breakfast at her place the morning before we took off to Indianapolis. She served us the foods that were leftovers from the Chinese New Year Party at the new director of Malaysian Student Department, Aunt Rohana. They're still good.

This is at the Navy Pier. It was very cold. There's the view of Lake Michigan. It's frozen!

Uncle Sukri brought us to Downtown Chicago. The skyscrapers mesmerizes me. It has been a long time since I saw tall buildings which is understandable bacause there's no such thing as skyscrapers or tall buildings in Athens.

Told you the Lake Michigan is frozen.

WINTER 2007

This year, weirdly, though the world is under global warming, it still snowed badly.

The first three pictures were taken one fasting evening. My sister was so excited upon celebrating Eid this year while my mother was quite sad about since we're celebrating it without our families around.

Remembering summer 2006

Yeap, we traveled around England and Paris during summer 2006. We flew from Columbus to Toronto, Quebec, Canada. It was an hour and seven minutes of flight, I think then we flew to Manchester, England. It was a seven hour journey. Abang picked us up at the airport. We then went to his place in Lancaster, an hour ++ trip from Manchester.
